Day 24: Walking in the Light

1 John 1:6-7; John 1:7-9.

1 John 1:6-7 “If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.”

If we must walk with God, we must walk in the light as He is in the light; the light of His Word. It will amount to self-delusion to think that one can walk in the dark; that is, outside of or contrary to God’s Word, and yet fellowship with God. Just as much as light and darkness cannot co-habit, he who walks in darkness cannot fellowship with God who is light. This truth must settle deep into whomsoever desires to fellowship or walk with God. According to Amos 3:3, it takes agreement for two people to walk together. For us to walk with God, we must be in agreement with Him. 

The light here in 1 John Chapter 1 refers to righteousness, while darkness refers to sin. Jesus Christ died on the Cross to redeem us from sin by shedding His blood for the remission of our sins. Anyone who is in Christ has been redeemed from sin; therefore we have no business with walking in sin anymore. We are no longer under the Law, but under Grace; therefore sin shall no longer have dominion over us (Romans 6:14). Walking in the light therefore is walking in righteousness. The fruit of righteousness are borne through us by the gift of righteousness that we have received in Christ Jesus (Romans 5:17).

Beloved, refuse to walk in unrighteousness because you are the righteousness of God in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:21). Don’t let anything of this present evil world touch you; by the grace that is in Christ, refuse to walk in unrighteousness. Walk in the light as God is in the light and you’ll have fellowship with Him. 

My Solid Front (Confession): I declare in the Name of Jesus Christ, that I increase in the knowledge of God; therefore my fellowship with Him is richer and deeper. I walk in the light as He is in the Light and I have fellowship with Him. Amen.
